Hope everyone’s July 4th weekend was memorable. On my end, summer kicked in nicely with an incredible wedding on an island off France’s Atlantic coast. The bride being my younger sister definitely added some spice into it. So many emotions were poured into it – pride, nostalgia, admiration, happiness – and made for one of these moments you know you’ll remember for the next 40 years.
ARTIST OF THE WEEK
Hannah Felisa
Hannah Felisa is a 20-year-old folk/pop singer-songwriter from Boston. Raised by Mexican Jewish parents, fluent in English and Spanish, she writes (self-proclaimed) sad ballads that weave together ethereal vocals with acoustic and subtle electronic textures. She started singing as a kid (as early as four) and drew early attention with her powerful debut “Cold in Hell”, released at only 15. Since then, she’s released over 10 songs and has been featured in the press a few times (see this GQ article from 2022).
Her growth has been impressive lately. In the past few weeks, her monthly Spotify listeners jumped nearly 100%, adding over 400 new fans on a single day off the back of her latest track “Fall Out” (released on May 15th). She sits at around 17K monthly listeners, with standout songs like “Naive” — released in 2024 — or “Deep End” – from 2022 – garnering close to 250K and 200K streams to date respectively.
The Ponoma college student (she moved to Southern California to propel her music career) already boasts an impressive following on social media, particularly Instagram with over 55K followers. Her TikTok is more experimental and intimate, but on both platforms she shares sincere, personal moments of her artist life with her fans. Quite impressively, her audience base extends beyond her US homeland, with strongholds in São Paulo, Kuala Lumpur, Sydney, Johannesburg and Istanbul.
